BREAKING THE BANK: CRONY CAPITALISM COSTS TAXPAYERS BILLIONS
In late 2016 the state senate passed a package of bills known as the ‘Gilbert Bills’. These bills offered up to $1 billion in tax credits to billionaire developer Dan Gilbert (the wealthiest man in Michigan). They then stalled in the state house.
Fast forward a few months and the updated bills (SB111-115) again passed the state senate, but this time they also passed the state house. The difference? A spending spree by Gilbert linked lobbyists pouring tens of thousands of dollars into to legislators campaign accounts and PACs. It is shady politics at its worst.
This is just one example of many bad deals for taxpayers. We simply can’t afford this corporate welfare. You should know how your representative voted, Rep. Beth Griffin voted in favor of all the bills.
