It’s no secret that money talks in Lansing, but did you know that Michigan ranked last in a government transparency and accountability? Citing an “honor system with no honor”, the Center for Public Integrity faults Michigan’s lack of disclosure that allows big money to remain essentially anonymous and for officials to work in areas they have a conflict of interest.
Restoring a government that serves it’s people requires shining a light into all dark corners. As a Representative I will support legislation that:
1. Shutdowns the legislator to lobbyist pipeline
2. Requires asset and financial disclosures for elected officials
3. Subjects the Governor and Legislature to FOIA requests
4. Prevents use dark money in campaigns
All of the serious issues that Michigan needs to address start with this. Change isn’t possible until we provide a government that is open and honest.
