Switching to my dad hat for the moment, my heart breaks for the victims and their families. My son is in Kindergarten and this is absolutely my worst nightmare. He had an active shooter drill at school recently, and I struggled with how do I explain why it’s necessary to a 6 year old? Do we honestly want to accept that this is the new normal and that it’s just the cost of freedom?
We’ve allowed ourselves to become so divided that we can’t even have a conversation on how to stop kids getting shot at school. I don’t want to take anyone’s rights away, I just want to know my children (or anybody else) aren’t going to be victims of gun violence. Is that truly unreasonable? It’s not right, we need to do better.
